Meet Alex Pelkey, Product Manager at Poseidon Systems, LLC. Originally from New Hampshire, he moved to Rochester to earn his B.S in Mechanical Engineering at the Rochester Institute of Technology. What would you tell your 13 year old self?

This is a tough one, especially because my 13 year old self was probably too stubborn to listen to me anyway. I would probably say to continue to surround yourself with people that make you better and want you to succeed, going to school is easier than being an adult – so enjoy it, and start learning to code as soon as possible. Also, get a haircut.

If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet and why?

I would love to be able to meet and hang out with Frank Sinatra. I have always been a big fan of his music and persona. Hopefully some of his sense of style, swagger, and song would rub off on on me. Hopefully my shower impressions of “That’s Life” and “My Way” would improve too!

What would you do, for a career, if you weren’t doing this?

I think I would be a mason or stoneworker. I grew up doing masonry with my dad on weekends and we would build chimneys, steps, and other custom brickwork. Even though it was hard work, it kept me in great shape and I still miss the feeling at the end of the day looking at the finished product knowing I had helped make something that will last for a 100 years.

What about Poseidon Systems excites you the most?

Poseidon Systems provided me with the great opportunity to be part of a company with cutting edge technology in the rapidly growing condition monitoring and IoT market. It is consistently interesting and exciting working with our customers in various industries like mining, wind, marine, and rail to learn about their specific condition monitoring needs, and to ensure that Poseidon is providing the best possible solution and service.
